The BBYRA story

The Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association, a colorful fixture on the New Jersey sailing scene, celebrates 100 years of racing on the bay. The now-14 clubs in the association keep up the tradition, racing classics such as the Barnegat Bay A-Cats and sneakboxes, as well as more modern designs.

The years of the BBYRA, and the individual clubs, have been chronicled in a coffee-table style book, “Chasing Roosters, A Century of Sailing on Barnegat Bay,” colorfully illustrated by photos past and present.

Gary Jobson, world class sailor, commentator, and Barnegat Bay native, is one of the authors, along with Lara Walsh and Dan Crabbe.

The book, with an accompanying DVD, is available by going to www.bbyra.org

The “Rooster” reference is to the image on the flag given to the winners of each racing class in the series. It is an old tradition being revived.
